A couple of weeks back I managed to get out and see a bit of Hobart while on a business visit.

Some of the images have lost sharpness due to jpeg conversion (can't seem to get them as good as RAW without being massive).













The night shots were sort of difficult to compose (had to seek shelter) as I only had my Manfrotto 714B.

It's lightweight, but fits nicely into the top of my crumpler - perfect for public transport and not looking like you've got expensive stuff. I've fitted the 323 quick release plate to make things a bit easier.

All comments welcome. I'm tempted to try the boat shed building with a duotone look.

Really nice pics. Great use of colour, great composition well picked out subject matter. Excellent. Gives me something to aspire to when i visit Hobart in a few weeks.

Nice shots Daniel - i have some that are very similar to your first from a trip I did a few month back.

Great shots like the one the red boat it really stands out

Love these shots, my favourite is Wrest Point... that sort of night/lights on the water shot I really aspire too, nicely captured.

CD - yeah I've finally spent up on a better bit of glass to retire the 70-300G. The 80-400 has been great so far. The focus is the only thing that lets it down, it's just shamed by the 70-200VR in AF speed! (but I knew this before buying). I'll bring it along to the meet when we decide on a date

Catcha - it is a very, very bright boat. Insanely orange Aurora Australis is owned by P&O and IIRC it's chartered to Antartica each year. I think it is bright orange so they don't loose it in the pack ice

It's only 100m or so away on constitution dock where Mawson headed off on the 1912 AAE (Australian Antartic Expedition) aboard the original steam converted Aurora

Alpha - yeah, I was thinking that you'd like the Wrest Point shot when I posted it. I've noticed that you've been working on similar shots for a while now.
The best advice I can offer on these is remove your UV filter (if using one), and use either aperture priority / manual mode to set the aperture to the sweet spot of the lens you are using (for the 18-70 DX that seems to be f8-f11 from my experiences). And use the best support you have available... mine was no Gitzo in this case!)
