I went up to our block on the Campaspe River in Mia Mia today.
Here are a few shots that I wouldn't mind some feedback on.

Thanks
Chris

1 is a great shot. The flare only adds to it I believe. I really like the pictures of the dog, he really looks like he's having a great time running through the grass and just generally being outdoors.

Thanks for sharing.
Owen.

Chris. These are much better than the earlier indoor attempts.

#3 is nice & sharp and a great capture - shame about the tongue. Must have been a lot of exercise!

#4 would be better if you had the background out of focus. You can achieve this with a lower F stop value (and a faster shutter speed)

#1 - the flare works well.

No probs.

1st pic - Interesting scene - few different angles you could have gone with. I probably would have cropped out more of the foreground rock - would give you more of a sense of being on the edge or a cliff and probably works better visually. I'd also clone or crop out the flare/ghost spot - i personally don't like them, my eyes see it as a blemish.

Somthing like this as a very rough first effort, it needs more thought and work but this is what i'm trying to visualise and work with.

2nd pic - nice expression and action - doggy looks happy. It would greatly benefit it doggy was sharper however, bit too soft.

3rd pic - i'd probably crop tighter around doggy or have used shallower depth of field. might have been interesting to see doggys whole body also. i like the tongue, makes the shot a little different. there's something about the lighting and the angle of the sun that makes me think that the shot would benefit from a different angle, don't know what it is though.

4th pic - nice attentive expression, again maybe the whole body would have made for an interesting pic (you can always crop after the fact). stubbsy makes a good point about the background - it probably detracts more from the pic more than benefiting it.

Looks like a nice place to run around with the pooch, much better than being couped up inside!!

Cheers,
Sam

Thanks for the feedback.

My Boy who is in shots 2 & 3 has a tongue that is far to big for his mouth. It hangs out all the time. Sometimes as much as 10cm. If he was human he would be very popular with the ladies. He can lick is eyebrows. Makes for some comical shots.

I'll have a bit of a play with PP and blur the background in the portraits and remove part of lens flare and crop the shot into the valley.

The dog running shot has been heavily cropped. I'll try the same shot with a faster shutter speed. He front paws shows movement which I like but I think it was at the cost of sharpness. It was shot at 1/100 and f18 for no other reason than that's what I used the shot before.

Just for interest, I shot the 2 portrait shots one handed because I've got a ball in the left hand as that's the only way I can keep the dogs still for more than half a second. That's how I get the attentive expression.

I like content of #3 the best, and the perspective of #4. :)

Kane is a boy with a large tongue and Anya is the brindle and white one.

They are both nearly 9. They are great models.
