Had the pleasure of spending some time with Matt K at Sydney airport yesterday. It was very windy and the planes were taking off and landing directly into the breeze. Good thing is the runway they were using meant they whooshed in over the top of us. All pics below were hand held which is a testament more to the VR than to my hand holding technique given the conditions. My favourite shots below (click the pic for a larger version):

Nice work Peter, love the one with the heat haze from the engines.

They all have a bit of a blue cast, I wonder whether a touch of colour adjustment would be worthwhile?

Looking at the pics at work I'd have to agree about the blue cast. Will fix and update when I get home.

Gee a conversation with myself with Greg B looking on. Have updated the images to less blue versions. 87 views and 1 comment Will some of you lurkers please tell me what I need to do to make these better (or should I just give up on the idea of more plane shots )

hrmmm - these don't really grab me Peter. Then again, plane shots are difficult to get well (there are just so many of them, it's hard to get something that stands out!).
I think I would have prefered some more direct angles - they are nice and clear, and I also like the heat haze. I'm not overjoyed at the two virgins either - I think you're right in that it may be a bit too cluttered.


Is that OK? I really don't like saying much when I don't have anything useful to add. But you did push for more responses!

Exactly waht I want to hear Leon. These were my first serious attempt at getting a plane shot hence my desire for feedback. Personally the only one that REALLY grabbed me was the jet heat haze.

Peter: I would have used a CP to try to stop the sky blowing out... and give more contrast between the planes and the sky...

I would have liked to see the first one but with the whole plane and yes the heat haze is my favourite too... nice shot
