First Attempt with ND Grads

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

First Attempt with ND Grads

Gidday,

I finally got out on the weekend for a sunrise shoot and to try out the ND Grad filters that I bought about 6 months ago.

So off we went to the famous (and heavily photographed) North Narrabeen rock pool.

Sunrise was due @ 5.47am
I got there @ 5:10am and still missed half of the nice blue pre-dawn sky. Next time will have to go earlier.

All images were taken with HiTech 0.6 + 0.9 ND Grads + CPL filter. The CPL was causing lots of vignetting, but I couldn’t be bothered to take it off.

This was an accidental Panorama. When I took these two shots it was not my intention to stitch them together. When I was processing the RAW file it just looked like it could be stitched nicely. There is still work to be done, a quick clone job in the bottom right hand corner isn't right as yet.

the colours captured in the last one is brilliant! Give it slightly a bit more contrast and print it big! Top work with the ND grad

I would crop a bit off the bottom in the first one.

Wocka - excellent shots! My preferred one is the 2nd image..
It sure looks like it was a beautiful morning too. Getting there before 5:10am though...eeew :).

Those colours are brilliant! As they say, the early bird gets the worm.

The sunrise shoot has been on my to do list for a while, but I only recently purchased a tripod and haven't had a chance yet. Seeing these has inspired me just enough to see what I can do about getting to the coast this weekend in the early AM.

My pick of them is #3. For an accident, it turned out pretty okay. :D

Oooh these are nice! Its taken me a while to decide which one is my favourite... and yes I'm a girl so I'm allowed to have favourites... ;)

The last one is the best in my opinion.. :)

Works a treat. The last one is very good. YOu have also managed to maintain colour with the ND filters too.

Thanks for the response, I'm very pleased with the difference the ND Grads make to the image. I should have bought these ages ago.

I chose the HiTech filters because the Cokin ones are meant to have a grey tinge to them and the Sing-Ray and Lee were just too expensive.
