Osprey in flight - Narrabeen

Using PS to take out the strings on that KITE was a great move!!!!! :lol:

nope he shot it with his d200.
we were sitting at a spot where we had seen them fly past and they werent coming so he said ok lets go home. I had more stuff to pack so started first.
as soon as my camera was away it flew past twice at the range shown.

P*ssed me off cos I couldnt get my stuff out again quick enough.

Thanks for the replys. He was watching us the whole time he flew past. Maybe we should have stopped off for some fresh fish to tempt him with...

Was taken with D200 and 80-400mm VR. (VR switched on!) :lol:

Full frame whow :shock: I think I might chuck the cast net and get a few fish to feed to my local pair. See if I can tempt them in really close. :wink:

Bob:

the lens he used was the 80-400 vr @ 400mm on d200

it is capable of focussing on flying birds so long as you get a bit of a run up at em. the d200 and d2x make these shots easier to get sharp with the benefit of AF-c with lock on priority. AF-c is normally release priority so that the shutter is possible to be released whether focus is achieved or not. The lock on priority feature in af-c ensures continuous focus and the shutter will only be released when focus is achieved on the active
af sensor. having said all of that I just have to get them close when I have the camera out :cry:

as for getting close, we have been watching this pair for a couple of weeks learning habits.
so you can get somewhere appropriate and wait. If luck is on your side you may get an opportunity.

my shots today werent as close as this except for the pass when this one was taken when it came very close and 400mm was too much lens. the shot I got was even closer than full frame, beautifully exposed but with chronic camera shake as I struggled to get the camera back out in a hurry. My vr was off also because I previously had the camera on the tripod.

would have thought I could shoot a sharp shot @ 1/1250sec but not in this case. P*ssed me off no end cos I have taken sharp shots @ 1/80 sec @400mm handheld before (not of flying birds though.)

The real secret in getting this close to em is to come out with me and have me pack up my gear to move off. this is the second week in a row that it has happened to me :cry:

This is just stunning! Hard to believe that there are 2 shots of a flying Osprey on this forum at once, both of which are great. But this shot is one that I would gladly have in my image library.
