Sydney Workshop alerts: EsOI

Postby gstark on Mon Aug 10, 2009 2:16 pm

Over the last month or so there's been some evidence of interest in us conduction a number of workshops, those being lightpainting, off camera flash, and studio lighting/portraiture.

The first of these, lightpainting, is already in train, and is set for August 19 at Tunks Park, just a few Km north of the city, at 7pm.

So, let's start the ball rolling on the other two; who is interested in, and upon what dates ...

Off camera flash?

Studio lighting and portraiture?

I'm thinking in terms of one each over the next couple of months, with the off camera flash being in a suitable outdoors location, and talking with Moth about the studio event.

We will also need a couple of models for each of these, and suggestions of a location for the off-camera-flash workshop. My initial thoughts are Centennial Park for this, because it has lots of greenery, trees and other stuff, but I'm open to any and all suggestions. Auburn Botanical Gardens might also be suitable, but I think that entry and egress at Centennial Park may be a little better.

All thoughts and discussion welcome, and in this thread, if you please.

I would be interested in wither or both, but dates are complicated for me. I will fit in (or not) to what others want.

any and all, my skills in these areas are non-existent and it would be great just to even tag along to one of these, as for dates, i am easy and can work around what others want, maybe make the studio session a week night to even up on the weekends?

Just went through my paperwork and found the Australian Centre for Photography (ACP) Studio Hire

The studio is 7.4 x 5.6 m and features an entire wall of windows facing north.

Artificial lighting includes 3 tungsten Arrilites, 1 floodlight, a studio flash floorpack with 2 heads and 3 studio flash monoblocs also includes a Minolta IVF light meter.

The studio is also equipped with various tripods, stands lighting accessories and coloured backdrops.

Prices are as follows:

$50 per hour

3hours $120

6hours $210

don't know if that helps at all since i have got no clue of the goin prices for studios and equipment.

I am interested in both. Off camera flash I am very keen on. Hard for me to lock in dates though. Once I get through August I am a bit better.

Centennial Park sounds great, there is also the Federation Pavilion which could be a useful prop and the amphitheatre.

If the dollar keeps running I will bring my new D700

I would be interested in both but I notice most meetings are done on Saturdays. Is any interested in doing Sundays?

Definitely interested in both, more so in the off camera flash. But like a few people here, due to work commitments dates can be difficult, but I'm happy to see if the stars align :)

I would be really keen on the studio lighting and protraiture one (given that absolute noobs are welcome). Schedule is fairly full atm and I could only do a weekend unless Labour day was an option.

But yes will be following the thread with interest

Colour me interested in both.

Dates, location and child pending of course :)

I have speedlights, stands, brollies and pocket wizards I can bring along to the off-camera thing if it suits.

Hi Barry,

A Sunday could possibly work for the OCF workshop ... I'd like to include Oz for this one though (seeing as his post was the impetus for it) and I think he stated that he'd drive down for this one if possible.

Whitey's suggestion of the Federation Pavilion is a good one, but I can foresee some issues with that if we do this on a Sunday and end up pissing off others who also want to use it for their Sunday picnics or whatever. That conflict could also occur on a Saturday, btw, but probably on a lesser scale.

And I also need to keep in mind our Sunday evening radio commitments. Shouldn't be an issue, but we do need some prep and travel time ....

And I'd also like to try to cater for Chris (Rooz) who has conflicts with weekend events due to his work schedule. That one is more difficult ....

Taking all of this into account, it's seeming to suggest a Sunday morning OCF workshop at Centennial Park, perhaps located somewhere adjacent to the Fed Pav ...

Proposed attendees ....

I think that's the current state of play for the OCF ...

As for the studio lighting workshop, we have basically the same list of attendees, plus craig.rohse and Mozzie, but that raises a different issue: numbers. That would be way too many, in the one session, for this to be an effective exercise.

That means either two dates, or a long day session, split into two, with different groups in the morning and afternoon. The long day session means just the one date, and (hopefully) just the one set of models, but it also probably means it must be a Saturday event.

Any other issues?

Any suggestions for dates for the OCF ?

Sunday morning sounds alright for me as my sunday job is currently not giving me any work....fires up CLS....

About the studio session....saturdays are probably not the best for me as I am working saturdays at the moment out at Macarthur. If it cant be accommodated i'll just have to miss out and try get some studio time another time or elsewhere.

Keep me posted

For the OCF I think 20th Sept or 18 or 25 October would work for me. October may also see the mornings a little warmer than at present.
