Bon Voyage Nicole

Postby kipper on Wed Aug 24, 2005 9:15 pm

As some of you might know, one of our long time members Nicole is about to depart on a trip of a lifetime to Zambia on Saturday (morning I think). During this time she'll come face to face with wild animals such as Lions, Elephants, Zebras, Giraffes, African Fish Eagles, just to name a few (sorry I'm not upto date with the wildlife here). This is not her first time to South Africa, and probably given her passion for the country not her last. I'm pretty envious, as I'd love to go to Kenya and Tanzania, not sure how much in turmoil those places are but I've always loved watching movies such as Out of Africa, Born Free and The Ghost and the Darkness. Anyway that's going off point a bit. I'm pretty much writing this to wish Nicole and her husband Tony, Bon Voyage and I wish them a safe trip and look forward to all her photos when she gets back.

PS: this just shows how sad I am. Once in my drunken purchasing state of minds, I bought the Out of Africa DVD. Birddog, there is hope yet for me getting a D2X! :)

Kipper/Darryl,

Didn't you offer to be the Sherpa for the trip :?:

I did but I didn't fit in the 12kg luggage restrictions that Nicole has once she reaches South Africa. All I know is that trip home on an international flight is going to be pretty funky ^_^ :)

   Thanks! Just have to get through one more day of work. I think they can't wait to get rid of me because they seem to think I've lost the plot.

As I said to you Darryl, it was the holiday or the lens. I'm too addicted so had to go back with some proper gear (instead of the P&S). I'm already plotting to go back in the green season when it's best for birds (and cheaper).

As for the Sherpa, I felt it was better I carried the gear around this time. Don't want Tony to feel like he's the assistant or something. I hope we don't come too close to lions or other predators on foot after the close encounter of the leopard kind on the last trip.

Most of all I'm looking forward to not having to do anything for 2 weeks except take photos and enjoy myself! :D

Well have fun, and take care. Look forward to you returning. Hopefully the weather will be a bit more drier than it currently is. Might have to borrow your Sigma when you get back until I get the 500 :)

Did you end up watching Massive Nature the other day? How was that fish eagle striking the Flamingo? I so want to go there :)

I watched it. I couldn't believe the baboons and the flamingos. Hopefully will see fish eagles on the Zambezi river.

Yeah the Bamboos amazed me, I never really expected them to exhibit such behaviour. The ferocity at which they charged and attacked their prey was amazing. Could you imagine being close at hand as one of them charged, I'd be scared shitless :)

Have a great trip Nicole...

Now... just remember that there are no bars or glass between you and the lions in Zambia...

Looking forward to seeing your shots on your return...
Cheers, John
