Nikon Df Announced

Postby gstark on Tue Nov 05, 2013 3:32 pm

Full frame 16.4 megapixel sensor - same as in the D4, but in a compact body with many mechanical touches.

Image

Key Features of the Df:

16.2 megapixel full frame CMOS sensor, as found in the Nikon D4
Smallest and most compact FX camera in Nikon's history
EXPEED 3 image processing engine, with an ISO range of 100-12800
Low-light, HDR and Active D-Lighting capabilities and improved white balance
Ultimate style – available in silver or black with leatherette finish that enhances comfort and is reminiscent of Nikon's milestone masterpieces
Mechanical dials which give photographers total camera control over shutter speed, ISO sensitivity, exposure compensation, exposure mode and release mode
Compatible with the full range of classic Nikon lenses, including non-AI lenses

I love the retro look, and the fact that the dials etc are mechanical.

And they've released a new 50mm f/1.8 lens to go with it.

Available at the end of the month. If anyone wants to buy me a Christmas pressie. :)

I wanna know the pricing.

Apparently Amazon accidentally released the pre-ordering page with pricing (US$2750 body only - ouch)

I know.

But that's not local pricing.

The question might become (fo me) D800e or Df.

I'm on the waitlist for a review unit, but the PR don't even have a D610 yet.

IIRC, you said something pretty similar about the Nikon 1 and the D800 when each of those were announced. :)

Which probably means you'll be buying one at some point. :)

Looks great.

I counted 27 buttons. they may have taken this idea to an extreme...

Seems it will be dearer than a D800e? This is unexpected, but I loved the marketing campaign.

very cool

USD2800 body only

http://www.gizmag.com/nikon-df-retro-dslr/29665/

for me, it's a shame they ditched the video capability, its a nice thing to have.

Given its entry point is similar to a D800, with weather sealing etc and sensible megapixels  and the very tactile mechanical dials I think i could live with one :)

Far too many buttons and dials for my liking. Just stuff to get snagged on the vines when you're crashing through the jungle. The casing must look like Swiss cheese. And too expensive. And too late....I'm kinda attached to my Fuji.

love the look, but can't believe they put a two-year old D4 sensor in… just another example of Nikon taking the piss, if you ask me

lol isn't it awesome how different we all are ?
I love the fact it has the d4 sensor, in fact id be thrilled if it also had the d3s sensor. what shows Nikon is taking the piss is the new lens.

how the hell is Nikon supposed to get it "right" when none of their customers agree ! lol

realistic wants for me that really should have been in there:
51pt af system...why use the 39pt and charge so much ? strange
cut the body height down by at least 20% to make it more compact and more differentiated from a d610

want $3k of my money ? all of the above plus
cut depth by 20%
hybrid VF with focus peaking like the x100s
tilting touch screen, like the EM-1
put video back into the damn thing ffs...hell even the amateurish video in current dslr's would be fine

still, I don't get where this is going. is the df a new line ? a bit weird.
