Sony Exmor R in compacts -> Nikon DSLR

Postby Grev on Thu Aug 06, 2009 11:09 pm

This is exciting news, I remember mentioning this in one of the threads here and the general opinion here is that it will be in cameras "eventually", looks like now that it's going into compacts, it's going to be in SLRs in the near future.

If you don't knw what Exmor R sensors are, they're CMOS with circuitry at the back so it can collect more light, at the moment it's only used in the Sony XR500, 520 video cameras.

I wonder if Sony will keep them for their 'A' series DSLRs and not share the technology with Nikon, Canon etc.
It will be interesting to see who ends up using these sensors and whether similar sensor tech. has been developed by other sensor manufacturers, as is often the case in other parts of the semiconductor indusry.

I am going to a Cybershot thing next wednesday night and hopefully will be able to play with a few of those Exmor-R equipped Cybershots. I may buy a MS pro duo for the occasion so I can get some pics to show you all....but I don't really want or need any MS.

Damn Sony and their memory stick duos! It's like their minidisc which came and went. But this one like a bad ebay trigger on a 430EX, keeps on going but no one wants it to.....

They'll probably introduce a new memory stick format especially for this event. :)
