Is this mob for real? I can't find a phone contact for them, which makes me suspicious.

Y-ip you are right, it is a kiwi company operating out of NZ, here is there real website http://www.einfo.co.nz/
Ozi, there is no Ozi phone number, well picked, I doubt I would give $2.5k who doesn't have a phone number

Thanks Glen, they may well be a sensational company to deal with, but personally I like a phone number and a street address in case of a dodgy product etc.

Cheers, Ozi

You will probably be liable for GST when it comes into the country though.

They never replied to me about my question about GST. Their FAQ states that there is no GST on the imported products. I think this is dishonest as the imported gear is shipped directly from OS to you. You would be liable for GST on entry. quikshop fail to mention this.

I got my 35L from quikshop. The website said "This product is 100% Australian Stock......full australian manufacturer warranty...."
When I received it, there was no warranty card, so I asked them where it was. Then skipping a few lines through, they later replied "we would like to thank you for poining out this error on our website, the mistake has now been corrected".

I got it at a good price, so I'm not complaining too much.
My friend bought 24-70 from them, ordered it on Monday, arrived here Thursday (from HK).

but $2400 for a 5D is super :D

Yes, no GST bill with my friend's 24-70 or in my 35 + 50 f/1.4
I was expecting the 35mm lens to be shipped in Australia (then got the surprise when the package came from HK).

I don't know you feel about ebay but here's another option, the store says they offer 12 month seller warranty and they have an agent in Australia. The product is offshore. $2,299 plus $81 shipping. I have purchased minor equipment from them before but never anything major.

Sorry, just off topic a bit, how do the prices of the overseas 40D stack up?

At the risk of being on topic - is $2,590.00 from http://photobuff.com.au/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=44 still a good price?

(d-d-photographics are marginally cheaper @ $2,575, but thats no big difference...)

Hi,

Anyone tried buying from B&H? I've tried converting the price from US$ to AUD$ and it's still significantly cheaper... is there a catch somewhere? Are they reliable?

One catch, and a number of points to be aware of.

The points, first ...

B&H will issue an invoice for actual amount that you pay. This means that when the product arrives here it will exceed the stated limits from which a GST exemption is granted and thus you will need to add GST. GST is charged on the landed cost, and so the cost of shipping needs to be factored in to not simply your purchase, but also your GST calculation.

The carrier that you use will invoice you for the GST, plus a customs release fee, plus a customs agency fee. Factor these into your calculations too.

Your credit card company will NOT use the rate that you see quoted on the news or in the papers. They will use one that is similar, but probably less favourable.

Then they hit you with a commission fee for the privilege of using your card in an overseas transaction. Bloody thieves!

There is also a transaction limit that some overseas traders impose upon themselves with respect to overseas (from their PoV) transactions. This may prevent the transaction from occurring completely. That one's the catch. :)

After all of that, it may still be quite favourable to bring the camera in from the US; I'm still waiting to hear from Poon about revised HKG pricing, but as with all things Canon, he seems to be more tardy than with Nikon. At least he's usually very quick on the processing of the orders.

Gary is right, if you import something like a 5D there is every chance you will be hit by GST plus all the other "fees", plus you may have warranty problems if something goes wrong, just a thought here.

If you insist on using a credit card that charges this fee. You should check out http://www.wizard.com.au/creditcards/task.aspx?id=580

I don't know yet, I've budgeted for it, but I hear people are lucky from time to time.
I've been following the prices, BHPhotovideo was in front for a while, but the one I picked, with grip seemed a better deal.
The only thing you can count on in life is that a better deal will appear 10 minutes after you pay :D

I bought a Canon 40D for just under $1400 from are-jays.com they get a bad rap from a whirlpool forum if you search them on google their site may be gone. Camera shipped fedex out of Subic Bay Phillipines manual was written in Chinese they included a photo copy of English manual. It was a fast delivery and no added taxes in oz. Guarentee I cant even spell the word so I would say no. The camera is fantastic, well worth the risks.

Adorama has an option of not giving you an invoice, they call it 'gift option', so there'll be no prices on the invoices they issue but I guess that will attract custom's attention.

G'day

I phoned them and asked about the GST (I was buying a +$1,000 lens) and I was told "it's taken care of" - without further elaboration which he wouldn't give, the answer didn't entirely satisfy me, but I thought in the end I would give it a go and order the Bigma 50-500mm.

With the credit card supplement and fees by the credit card processor the total cost was lifted from the advertised $1,040 to $1,085 ($4 above the "local list" price which didn't take credit cards). The lens arrived yesterday arvo. It took Fedex 5 days to ship the lens from HK, but it got here safely, no GST was charged at importation - the product value was listed at $750 on the shipping / freight papers.

i've found them to pretty good ot deal with, i just bought my sigma 18-200 DC OS lens from them, and i'd buy from them again.
i put the order in monday night, and i had it on my doorstep the following monday, shipped directly from an overseas warehouse. the price on their product was fantastic, i would estimate about half of what i woulda have paid if i'd picked it up in person from retail.
