Down in Melb this weekend (need some help)

Postby Willy wombat on Fri Mar 10, 2006 10:18 pm

Hi guys - im in Melbourne tonight (Friday 10th March) and Saturday. Im attending a friends wedding on Sunday night.

I have a problem

My sensor is filhy!

I would like to shoot some pics at the wedding but i need to get it cleaned before hand, so that leaves me with Saturday. Anyone got the gear and experienced at doing it? What about a shop that might be able to do it for me? I really need help.

Im in Mentone.

Can anyone please help me.

Reply here or PM me

Cheers
Steve

Hi Willy, Welcome to Melbourne. I'm near you, in Clayton. I have the blower and pec pads with MeOH. I could do it for you tomorrow. Have you tired dry method? I'd rather use that, I mean the blower. With wet method, even though I know how to do it, I am not confident subjecting someone elses camera to it ...

G'day Steve,

Welcome to Melb as well :) Hope you enjoy the scorching weather we're going to have this weekend.

I'm around the Mentone area as well just up the road in Moorabbin. Unfortunately not sure if I can help you clean up your sensor 'cos I already have plans tomorrow. Good luck though and enjoy your trip :)

I ended up cleaning Steve's camera for him on Sunday morning. An Air Rocket blower got rid of most of it (I think he may now be in the market for one!) and the rest we got up with a VisibleDust Arctic Butterfly (Pec*Pads + Eclipse were on hand as the next step, but we didn't have to go there).
Actually Steve's camera wasn't all that bad: I've seen worse!

Testing for dust with the 50mm/1.4 was only marginally useful: it only stops down to f/16. When we finished there were still a few specs visible at f/32 on a Sigma 105mm macro, but it was a case of diminishing returns at that point.

Thanks so much - my short time in Melbourne has been so hectic - it was great to be able to schedule in a time for a cleaning lesson today (in the morning) and be shown how to do it all in time for the weddinbg in the afternoon. I am very appreciative for the lesson Dave.

Thank you guys - images from the wedding to come soon (when im not so pissy). Thanks to all those who responded. I will repond to all in person in next few days.
