No F1-11 flyover for Skyfire event

I'm not happy. I finally have a camera capable of capturing the F1-11 flyover and fuel dump'n'burn and they cancel the military component due to insurance.

Anyone still going to the event? What else is likely to be worth shooting?

cheers
Mark

Sounds like Fox/MMM FM Skyshow that they used to hold here at Albert Park. It was one of the best family outings I reckon you could go to. Think they ended up cancelling it due to costs of running it and the stupid insurance costs. It used to be topped off with the Roulettes and an F-111 fuel dump.

How about the fireworks? I've never photographed fireworks before so that would be something to learn, right?

Fireworks are still going ahead and negotiations are underway to get the Department of Defence to budge on the F-111 issue. However, as it's a public liability issue, I can't see any positive outcome on that score and the best we may get is a Cessna towing a sparkler.

Can't get insurance? I've not heard too much about this but what a joke!

The F111 is a military plane flown by the finest pilots in the country not some bushie flying an ex Military Russian Mig.

Is this just another insurance slug to generate more money to pay for disasters and events in the United States?

Riverfire without a flyover / dump and burn is like eating Apple Pie without Ice-Cream..... you can get by without it but is it really worth the effort?

TonyH,
Totally agreed with with your reply! what's a heck of insurance when those people talked about? If George W Bush is coming then they will do all without asking. They've done it recently in Canberra VP day, at Avalon Airshow in last March. Perhaps they will have another excuse of the fuel increased prices from the high price paid for a barrel of oil recently.

So true, the cost of visits by foreign "regal" or political types cost the taxpayers millions and millions every year. What do we get out of it? A wave on the TV screen. Not good enough, I want a F1-11 flyover with afterburners.

sidenote:
I wonder how many of the F1-11s are now being mothballed cause the Gov't is too stupid to keep them running while waiting for the next genreation fighter.

Great!!

It will make it as normal, a great event to attend. I'll now make the effort to go..... without the F111s it's just another fireworks display (as good as it is!).

According to the official web site http://www.ourbrisbane.com/whatson/riverfestival/riverfire.php there will be a F111. It makes my little girl frightened, but I'd love to catch it with my D70.

How do you guys find the riverfire for photography?

I went many years ago with camera and pod, but I got tired of people bumping it etc, not to mention the huge crush of people.

If I could find a great spot with no people (just like everyone else wants for Riverfire!) I'd do it. Even the mtns always get ridiculously busy (Mt Coo-tha and Mt Gravatt).

No I wish I did, had every intention of going but at the last minute those plans went out the window unfortunately. I'm not really into fireworks, in fact not at all but I was looking forward to the dump and burn.
